• How do I know which Britax® car seats offer fabrics that are free of flame-retardant (FR) chemicals?

• What is the benefit of choosing a Britax car seat with a naturally flame-retardant cover?

  Britax uses a tightly woven fabric construction that is naturally flame-retardant, which helps reduce your child’s exposure to certain chemicals. While all car seats must meet the same flammability standard, our approach avoids the need for added flame-retardant chemicals, offering a safer alternative.

• Is my naturally flame-retardant (no added FR chemicals) car seat cover safe to machine wash and dry?

  Yes, the tightly woven fabric construction of your naturally flame-retardant cover is safe for machine washing and drying. Since there is no added FR chemical treatment, you don’t have to worry about the agitation cycle breaking it down. For best results, follow the care label instructions and replace the cover after 30 washes to maintain optimal quality and prevent fading.

• How do I clean my SafeWash® cover?

  To clean your SafeWash cover, secure all hook and loop fasteners before washing. Machine wash on a delicate cycle with cold water and mild detergent. Tumble dry and remove promptly. Avoid ironing, bleaching, or dry cleaning. For the best results, and to prevent fading, replace the cover after 30 washes.

• What is Nanotechnology?

  Nanotechnology changes the fabric fiber on a molecular level, becoming a part of the fiber that enables the textile to permanently resist spills and stains. Nanotex changes the surface energy of the fabric, making it resistant. The lower the surface energy, the more resistant the textile is.

• Are Nanotex (StayClean™) fabrics machine washable?

  Britax recommends hand washing with a mild detergent and air drying. More details can be found on the Nanotex cleaning tips page.

• Does Nanotex (StayClean) fabric keep my child dry?

  Nanotex (StayClean) is moisture-resistant, helping to prevent spills and your child's sweat from setting into the fabrics.

• Are the Nanotex (StayClean) car seat fabrics Greenguard Gold certified?

  No, the Nanotex (StayClean) car seat fabrics are not Greenguard Gold certified, due to the fact they must meet the FMVSS 302 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for Flammability of Interior Materials) by adding flame retardants.

• Does the Nanotex (StayClean) stain resistance fabric protection contain or emit harmful substances?

  The Nanotex (StayClean) stain resistance fabric protection does not contain or emit harmful substances, meaning it is free of heavy metals, phenols, phthalates, odor and skin sensitizers, PFOS and PFOA.
